Overview

Stony Brook University opened its doors in 1959, and in some circles it has come to be regarded as the best public school in the state. It has flexed its research muscles over the years in astronomy, medical applications, engineering, and other diverse fields. In particular, the school runs the prestigious Brookhaven National Laboratory in collaboration with the Battelle Memorial Institute. Stony Brook is certainly an important research university, but will need to improve some aspects of college life for it to move up in our study.
