The New York University brand name looms large, due to its stellar academic reputation, its center-of-the-action Manhattan location, and its alumni roll that reads like a Who’s Who list of Hollywood, business, entertainment, government and medicine. Like other metropolitan campuses, it is difficult to separate NYU from its sur- roundings, which makes the undergraduate experience like none other in the world – and not for everyone. You shouldn’t expect a close, collegial undergraduate experience or an expansive quad with a lush lawn.
