The original prototype for President Lincoln’s land-grant colleges under the Morrill Act, Michigan State University began as an agricultural college in 1855. Like many of the other land-grant schools, MSU is larger and more technically focused than its cross-state competitor, the University of Michigan. Yet MSU performs quite well against its Big Ten competitors on all fronts – academics, athletics and alumni performance post-graduation.
