Louisiana State University is home to nearly 24,000 undergrads, along with many excellent academic programs and cultural activities. LSU was founded in 1853, women were first admitted in 1904, and Black students were admitted in 1956. LSU today is a far more heterogeneous community, and the value of diversity is recognized as an important part of the institute’s “Flagship Agenda.” The school’s beloved Tigers are a power in the Southeastern Conference, particularly in football, which has garnered three national championships. LSU students tend to be fairly conservative.
