Overview

Ferris State University began in 1884 as an early coeducational institute. From the start, the school had a practical orientation. This focus on the acquisition of practical skills continues today, as reflected in the vision statement: “where theory meets practice throughout the curriculum, and where multi-disciplinary skills important in a global economy are developed...” Ferris suffered a devastating fire in 1950, but it has risen from the ashes since then, with a much-expanded campus and student body now numbering around 13,000 undergraduates.
