We at The Alumni Factor respect your concerns about privacy.  The following privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) applies to personal information collected on the website located at www.alumnifactor.com (the “Site”) and the services and products offered at the Site (the “Services”), and outlines The Alumni Factor’s practices for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information provided by you at the Site and in connection with the Services. 

 Scope

This Privacy Policy describes The Alumni Factor’s treatment of Personal Information that is collected from users of the Site or the Services.  “Personal Information” means information that is specific to you as an individual, such as your name, email address and credit card information.  This Privacy Policy applies only to users in the United States accessing the Site and Services.

 What Information does The Alumni Factor collect about me as I use the Site and Services?

 The Alumni Factor collects Personal Information that you provide us and other information collected through technology used on the Site.

Personal Information

            Subscription and Profile Information

Access to the Services is provided on a subscription basis.  If you subscribe to the Services, you will be required to provide certain Personal Information, such as name, email address, contact address and telephone number, billing information, and shipping address (if applicable).  The Alumni Factor may also collect other information you voluntarily submit on your user profile and personal dashboard, such as universities of interest, college(s) attended, etc.

            Billing and Payment Information

When you subscribe to a Service, we collect and store your payment and billing information.  Saved credit card information will only be used to process your subscription and any renewals, using our payment partner’s systems.     

            Public Forums

As a Service to our users, The Alumni Factor may provide bulletin boards, member communities or other forums within the Site that allow Site users with similar interests and experiences to share information (“Public Forums”).  Some of the Public Forums made available via the Site may be hosted by a third party service provider, in which case your Personal Information is sent to, handled, stored and hosted by such third party.  Please be aware that any information (including Personal Information) that you reveal in a Public Forum or otherwise transmit or post via the Site or a Service (collectively, “User Material”) is available to the public and may be seen, disclosed to or collected by third parties and may be used by others in ways The Alumni Factor is unable to control or predict, including to contact you for unauthorized purposes.  The Alumni Factor is not responsible for any Personal Information you provide in Public Forums and has no responsibility to post, remove or edit any of your User Material.  For additional information regarding User Material and Public Forums, please read the User Material section of the Terms of Service.

            Messaging Service 

The Alumni Factor may also offer certain messaging services (“Messaging Services”).  If you elect to participate in Messaging Services, other users may use the service to communicate with you.  We will not provide your contact details to such other user but will notify you by email or on your profile page when you receive a message.  The Alumni Factor is not responsible for any Personal Information you provide via the Messaging Services and is not responsible for the content of any message you receive via the Messaging Services.   

            Surveys, Contests, Sweepstakes, Special Promotions

The Alumni Factor may collect, or engage a third party service provider to collect, Personal Information from you in connection with surveys, contests or other special offers.  Participation in such activities is voluntary and will not affect the terms of your subscription.

Other Information

            Log Files / Device Information

The Alumni Factor may collect other information about the computer, mobile device or other device you use to access the Site, such as unique device identifiers, IP address, geolocation data, browser configuration, operating system and other transactional information.  The Alumni Factor uses this information for system administration, security, and other internal business purposes.

            Cookies 

The Alumni Factor may also from time to time collect other information about your use of the Site via cookies, web beacons or similar automated means provided by The Alumni Factor or its third party service providers.  We use the information collected from such automated means in order to recognize you, save preferences and session data, assist in the login process, personalize your experience at the Site, deliver advertising, improve the Site, and for other internal business purposes.  Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies but users can change the settings to refuse cookies or to be alerted when cookies are being sent.  Most browsers offer instructions on how to restrict or disable cookies.  Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you log on to the Site.  We may connect the information that we collect through cookies with other Personal Information that you provide to us in order to customize, personalize or otherwise improve your experience of the Site and for other internal business purposes.

How does The Alumni Factor use my Personal Information? 

            Providing Products and Services

We use the information we collect about you to provide you with the Services, fulfill your requests for products and services, and to respond to your inquiries.  We may use your Personal Information to periodically send you email newsletters or promotional emails about services offered by The Alumni Factor and its advertisers.  If you do not wish to receive such communications, you may opt-out of receiving such communications in the method set forth in the emails. 

If you have requested to receive information or be contacted directly from a selected school or other third party, we may provide such school or other third party with information that may include but not be limited to your user name, name and email address.  If you do not wish to receive further communications from such selected outside company or school or other third party, you will need to notify the school or other third party. 

            Analysis 

We use the information we collect to perform statistical, demographic and marketing analyses of the users of the Site and Services.  We use this information to assess interest in and attitudes toward individual colleges and universities, to understand the college decision-making process and to improve and enhance our products and Services. 

            Customizing Your Experience 

We use the information that we collect to allow advertising to be targeted to the users for whom such advertising is most pertinent. We also use this information to customize certain Services to provide you with an enhanced experienced based on the type of device you are using to access the Service.

How Does The Alumni Factor Share my Personal Information?

The Alumni Factor will not sell or otherwise share your Personal Information, except as described in this Privacy Policy. 

            Service Providers 

The Alumni Factor may contract with third party service providers to perform functions on our behalf, which may include website development, website hosting and assisting The Alumni Factor in analyzing or processing Personal Information.  These service providers are required to keep confidential the information received on behalf of The Alumni Factor and may not use it for any purpose other than to carry out the services they are performing for The Alumni Factor. 

            Forums 

If you choose to submit User Material for publication in a Forum or through the Messaging Services, we may publish in the Forum, or send to your designated recipient(s), your screen name and such other User Material that you supply. 

            Other 

The Alumni Factor may also disclose your Personal Information (A) if in good faith we believe that such disclosure is necessary to (1) comply with law enforcement, governmental mandate, or other legal requirement, (2) protect and defend our rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the Site or any Service; or (4) protect the personal safety, property, or rights of our users or the public, (B) in connection with a sale, acquisition or merger of our business, or our business assets (including in the event of a reorganization, dissolution or liquidation); (C) to our attorneys, accountants, or regulators; and/or (D) as approved by you from time to time. 

            Aggregate Data 

The Alumni Factor may share with third parties aggregate data that does not allow an individual to be identified. 

How can I Change my Privacy Options? 

            Subscription Data / Profile

You may update and/or edit your information online at the Site by logging in to the profile you created when you signed up for your subscription (“Profile”).

            Email Promotions

If, at any time, you prefer not to receive email marketing communications, simply follow the method set forth in the email to unsubscribe.

How We Protect Personal Information 

We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information you provide against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use. 

Children’s Privacy 

The Alumni Factor does not knowingly collect or store Personal Information from any children under the age of thirteen.  Our Site and Services are not directed to children under the age of thirteen.  If we become aware that we have inadvertently received Personal Information from a visitor under the age of thirteen on our Site, we will delete the information from our records. 

Linked Sites 

The Alumni Factor may include links to third party websites and resources on its Site from time to time.  The inclusion of any such link does not imply our endorsement of the external site or the content provided at such site and The Alumni Factor makes no representations or warranties regarding any such linked site or any content or services provided at such linked site.  The Alumni Factor is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites.  Please note that if you link to a third party site from the Site, any information you reveal on that third party’s site is not subject to this Privacy Policy.  We strongly suggest you review the privacy policies of each linked site you visit. 

California Privacy Rights 

Subject to certain limits under California Civil Code § 1798.83, users of the Services who are California residents may elect to opt out of any disclosure of Personal Information by The Alumni Factor to third parties for their direct marketing purposes by sending an e-mail to help@alumnifactor.com with “California Opt Out” in the subject line and in the message.  This opt-out does not prohibit disclosures made for non-marketing purposes. 

Changes to This Policy 

This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time without prior notice to you to reflect changes in our Personal Information practices. Any such changes will be posted on this page.  If The Alumni Factor makes a significant or material change in the way we use your Personal Information, the change will be posted on this page and registered subscribers will be alerted of the change the next time they log in to the Site.
